Matthias Wohlbrecht

“Matthias Wohlbrecht as Mime was cut from a different cloth. He showed every nuance and played with every detailed word of this bizarre text so that it was really a pleasure to watch him performing. His bright and characteristic tenor was the icing on the cake: whispering, caricaturing and vehemently triumphing. He shows stamina and phenomenal heights. Actually, this Mime was the star of the evening – fascinating the audience in every moment.”

The versatile singer is a brilliant Loge, Steuermann, Knusperhexe, Mime, Herodes, Oedipus or Pong. In January 2017, he was celebrated as Houston Stewart Chamberlain („Here the singer [...] draws with grandiose intensity the portrait of a person who wants to be important and consciously pushes everything human aside.”) in the world premiere ‘Wahnfried’ at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe. As a member of the ensemble he can be seen in Karlsruhe in the 2019/20 season as Max (‘Der Freischütz’), Raoul de St. Brioche (‘Die lustige Witwe’), Knusperhexe, Melot, Pong and Hauptmann (‘Wozzeck’), among others. He will also be a guest as Mime at the  Oldenburgische Staatstheater.

In May 2022, the tenor will make his debut as Herodes in the new production of 'Salome' at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe. With this he conquers another brilliant part, which corresponds completely to his habitus.
