| “...last but by far not least: Daniela Köhler as overwhelmingly vocal Brünnhilde. A Brünnhilde, if ever there was one. Radiantly excited in her voice (and in her eyes!!!) as she greeted the sunlight, the ‘Heil dir’ shouts almost caused goose bumps – and certainly woke some of the audience from their sleep. An enchanting, beautiful voice of a singer from whom one will hopefully hear and see many more exciting things in the future.” Here comes a young, highly dramatic soprano who has a great career ahead of her. Her successful debut as Sieglinde at the Oper Leipzig at the beginning of 2018 clearly shows her way into the great Wagner Fach. Her repertoire includes Elisabeth, Senta, Kaiserin, Chrysothemis, Gutrune, the Brünnhilden, as well as the Leitmetzerin, Norma, Fidelio-Leonore and Gertrud (‘Hänsel und Gretel’). At the Bayreuth Festival 2018, she sang all parts of Brünnhilde in the Bayreuth children’s opera ‘Der Ring des Nibelungen’. In Mainz, she made her debut as Brünnhilde in Loriot’s ‘Ring an einem Abend’ – a role in which she also appeared at the AaltoTheater in Essen and at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. In 2019, she toured with the Bayreuth Festival to Abu Dhabi, where she sang Sieglinde in ‘Die Walküre’ which was directed by Katharina Wagner and conducted by Markus Poschner. In spring, she made her sensational debut as ‘Siegfried’-Brünnhilde in Leipzig and in November, she presented the demanding soprano part of Mahler’s 8th with the Orchestre National de Lille. In 2019/20, she returns to Mainz as Brünnhilde in Loriot's ‘Ring’ and sings Fidelio-Leonore in Chemnitz, Helmwige in the new production of ‘Walküre’ in Madrid. The highlight of 2020 should follow in the summer: In the new staging of the tetralogy at the Bayreuth Festival, she was supposed to introduce herself to the international Wagner audience as Siegfried-Brünnhilde. Postponed to 2022 due to Corona. Her debut as Tannhäuser-Elisabeth at the Aalto-Theater Theateragentur Heidi Steinhaus München www.heidi-steinhaus.de Essen should follow in autumn. That is deleted too - instead she made her debut as Isolde in a short version of Tristan and Isolde at the Aalto Theater. The premiere was at the beginning of October. As “Jungfer Leitmetzerin”, she could be seen in the new production of 'Rosenkavalier' at the Munich State Opera in spring 21. Brünnhilde in Siegfried at the Leipzig Opera and at the Chemnitz Theater were planned. Canceled due to Corona. Leipzig showed instead in April 21 Loriot’s ‚Ring in one evening‘, where she sang Brünnhilde in Siegfried. The production was streamed by the Oper Leipzig. In May 21 she could be heard next to Stephen Gould Brünnhilde in a Gala Concert with excerpts from the ‘Tetralogy’ in honor of the 80th birthday of M° Taijiro Iimori at the Bunka Kaikan Hall in Tokyo. This should be followed by Senta in the new production of 'The Flying Dutchman' at the National Theater in Mannheim. The premiere was postponed to April 2022 due to Corona. As Brünnhilde in Siegfried she can be seen again at the Leipzig Opera in March and July 2022. Then follows the highlight of the year 2022 Brünnhilde in Siegfried in the new production of the Tetraglogie at the Bayreuth Festival. Followed by debüt as Sieglinde in September 2022 in Zurich in the new production of Walküre at the Operahouse Zurich. In November 2022, she briefly took over the role of Senta in Herbert Fritsch's new production of "Der fliegende Holländer" at the Komische Oper Berlin. "A Holländer performance stands and falls with the casting of Senta. Daniela Köhler has everything for this role. Her luminous soprano is technically well led, the top notes come safely and powerfully, but also piani and lower registers cause her no problems. She is the radiant centre of the evening." In spring 2023 she will debuting as Salome at the Staatsstheater Mainz and will be singing Brünnhilde in ‚Siegfried' at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and will be back at the Bayreuth Festival in the same role. | |
