Andrea Baker

"Andrea Baker had a real triumph as Brangäne. Her exquisite diction and luscious, full tones melt to a colorful and complex interpretation of Isoldes maid - it was pure pleasure."

The mezzo-soprano with her intense interpretations feels at home on all stages of the world. Her repertoire includes Amneris, Ortrud, Küsterin, Klytämnestra, Herodias, Magdalene, Erda, Venus, Waltraute, Fricka and Brangäne but also more recently Stolzius' Mother, Amme (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Begbick and Auntie (Peter Grimes). She is preparing Kundry, Venus (Paris version), Kostelnicka and Dalila. As a regular guest at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden she returns there for Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera) in 2018-19. With her own recital ‘Sing Sistah Sing!’ she is guesting around the world celebrating the African American female voice.
