Helena Zubanovich

Helena Zubanovich graduated at Music Academy in Katowice, and continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. She has been holder of several scholarships and won awards like the special prize of the International Antonin Dvorak Singing Competition.

After beginning her career as soprano, she switched to the mezzo repertoire and was promptly engaged as an ensemble member at the Volksoper Wien. There she sang Baba de Turk (The Rake’s Progress), Mrs. Quickly, Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Azucena (Il Trivatore) and Eboli (Don Carlos). Her broad repertoire also includes Hexe/Jezibaba (Rusalka), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Herodias, Maddalena (Rigoletto), Klytämnestra, Amneris, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), 2. Norn (Götterdämmerung) and Siegrune (Die Walküre) as well as Principessa (Suor Angelica), Etra (Phädra), Clementina (Santa Susanna) and Mutter (Hänsel und Gretel).

Since 2015 she is member of the ensemble at Bayerische Staatsoper München, where she could be heard amongst others as Hexe/Jezibaba and Wahrsagerin (The Fiery Angel). Furthermore she was guesting as Amneris at Aalto-Musiktheater Essen and as Principessa in Düsseldorf. In season 2017/18 she performed in Munich Contessa di Coigny (Andréa Chenier), La suora zelatrice in Puccini’s ‘Il Trittico’, Siegrune and Ninetta (Les vêpres siciliennes) as well as at Teatre Wielki as Amneris in spring 2018.

Engagements led her amongst others to Passau, Darmstadt, Erfurt, Ulm, Freiburg, Palermo, Sevilla, Montpellier, Zürich, Klagenfurt, Linz, Bern, Posen, to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, National Opera Brno, the Bayerische Staatsoper München and to the Beethoven Festival in Warsaw as well as back to Katowice working together with Krystof Penderecki.
