Magdalena Hinterdobler

“The central character of this production, however, is Micaëla, performed magnificently by Magdalena Hinterdobler. Fortunately, keeping in line with contemporary values, her portrayal of Micaëla has plenty of independence and attitude. Hinterdobler’s acting was simple, thoughtful and affecting and her vocal abilities were remarkable: a silky, resonant tone but with a multitude of expressive undercurrents, by turns impassioned, strong and desolately sad. Her aria in Act 3 was the clear highlight of the evening, bringing many audience members visibly to tears and eliciting huge applause.”

Magdalena Hinterdobler was born in Straubing and received her education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München as well as at the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding with Andreas Schmidt and in the Lied class of Helmut Deutsch.

The young soprano is one of the most sought-after young German singers of her generation. She has been a member of the Oper Leipzig since 2014 and last season made her acclaimed debuts with the Gewandhaus Orchestra as Rusalka and Marie in a new production of Smetana's 'Die verkaufte Braut'. Her other roles include Susanna ('Le Nozze di Figaro'), Pamina, Fiordiligi, Gretel as well as Ännchen ('Der Freischütz') and Dorella ('Das Liebesverbot'). In addition to Susanna and Pamina, her Mozart repertoire also includes Fiordiligi, with which she made her debut at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich in 2015. With Woglinde and Ortlinde she took her first steps into the Wagner field. With these two roles, she can be heard in the annual 'Ring' performances in Leipzig. In January 2020, she made her very successful debut with the 3rd Norn. Strauss and Wagner are the composers who will continue to play a major role in her artistic development in the future. Recently she has also been able to enthuse the audience in the Italian field with her interpretations of Liù and Musetta. She can be seen in this role at the Oper Leipzig in the 2019/20 season. There she can be heard again as Ännchen as well as Micaela ('Carmen') and Erste Dame ('Die Zauberflöte'). In Autumn 2020, she will give her debut as Kaiserin in the new production of ‘Die Frau ohne Schatten’ in Chemnitz.

The young soprano's concert repertoire ranges from baroque to modern music. As a soloist, she performs with many renowned conductors and orchestras, such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Stuttgart Bach-Collegium, the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. In the field of song, the singer maintains a close collaboration with the pianist Gerold Huber. In 2013 a CD recording of Wagner's early piano songs was released on the CPO label.
